Bay Area Man Still Missing After Plunge in Yosemite River
The search for a bay area man who slipped and fell into the Merced downstream from Vernal Falls has turned been scaled back to a body recovery since it’s unlikely anyone would survive this long in the hypothermic, swift-flowing waters of the Merced.
cbs5.com: “Kiran Yellajyosula, 27, was hiking with friends near Vernal Falls Saturday afternoon when he slipped off the rocks near a footbridge and was swept down the fast-moving river, said Yosemite park ranger Scott Gediman.
“He was relaxing on some rocks next to the river and fell into the river and has not been seen since,” said Gediman.”
It’s VERY important that everyone use EXTREME caution in and around water right now. The cold temperatures and high water levels can quickly lead to hypothermia sapping your strength and sweep even the most experienced swimmers away.
