Fall in Yosemite a Favorite Among Many
Fall is a beautiful time to visit Yosemite but this year seems to be extra special as the perfect combination of tempertatures and conditions are leading to one of the most spectacular displays of fall colors in recent history.
UnionDemocrat.com: “‘Fall - it’s my favorite season,’ park botanist Lisa Acree said during a walk through Yosemite Valley. ‘I feel like moving again. When it’s hot out, I don’t feel like exercising.’
Cooler, crisper air makes hiking more enjoyable, and fewer visitors create a more peaceful environment, Acree said.
Not to mention the park’s display of fall colors.
In the area of Tuolumne Meadows, leaves start to turn from rich greens to golds and reds in mid-August and slowly work their way down to lower elevations like Yosemite Valley.
The valley has another week or two of prime fall foliage before leaves drop and trees go bare for the winter.
It’s those colors that are drawing people like Josephine Laing and her husband to the park. The couple from San Luis Obispo were found pedaling their bikes on a path along Tenaya Creek.
‘It’s so incredible,’ Laing said. ‘We have come before in the fall and we wanted to come back again. It’s just so spectacular.’
Park officials have even issued what they call a ‘fall color advisory.’
‘When temperatures cooled and days got shorter, leaves on deciduous trees stopped producing chlorophyll and the familiar green color faded away to reveal the other pigments (like yellow and orange) that had been masked all season,’ the advisory states.”

For over 30 years now I've enjoyed hiking, backpacking, fishing, photographing and exploring Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.

Those are wonderful fall colors. There are not so many here at the coast in Ventura County where I am.
