And the Winner of this Year’s MacArthur Genius Award…
Theresa and I set out on Glacier Point Road for a pre-work skate ski this morning only to find a traffic jam in the middle of the cross-country ski trail! Which winner of the MacArthur Genius Award had driven his or her car out onto the ski trail, we wondered, stranding not only himself, but the groomer as well. Fortunately for our hapless driver, he only made it about 100 feet from the actual parking lot. We were imagining the discussion in the car: “Wait, the map says ‘Closed in Winter’. Do you suppose it’s winter now?”
When we got back, Larry (head of maintenance at Badger) was out looking over the situtation and explained it to us. As it turns out, gramma went out snowshoeing and got tired, so sonny decided to go rescue her. Kudos to sonny for filial devotion, but don’t show this to the grant approval committee.
And as I wrap this up, I find myself faced with choosing a category. “On the trail” I guess!
Oh, by the way, it was cold by Yosemite standards this morning. Even after it warmed up a bit by the time we left, the car thermometer said it was 11 degrees. I suspect it was in the single digits when we arrived at Badger.
