JOB SUMMARY

Yosemite National Park is one of the most well known national parks in the world and has been designated as a World Heritage Site for its natural and cultural resources. Social, cultural and natural resource issues and programs are extensive and have a potential to be very controversial since many park resources are fragile and easily impacted by inappropriate or heavy use. The primary goal of this position is to monitor, manage and attempt to resolve visitor-caused resource problems, to devise more effective management of the patterns of visitor activities and more effective management of the resources themselves.
WHO MAY APPLY: U.S. Citizens at least 18 years of age
This position is located in the Division of Resources Management and Science, the Visitor Use Social Science Branch at Yosemite National Park.
This position is term not to exceed one year and one day. Appointment may be extended in annual increments up to 4 years. Work schedule is full time. Sleectee will work full time a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 50 weeks per year. Full benefits are included with this position.
Area Information: Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty is the backdrop for this position. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks.
Yosemite Valley is located 208 miles from San Francisco, 81 miles from Merced, and 94 miles from Fresno. Shopping, dental, medical, postal and laundry services are available in the park. Some positions are located in isolated, backcountry wilderness settings. Elevation at the Valley floor is approximately 4000 feet. The park is open year-round with the majority of activities occurring during the busy season from March through October.
El Portal is a small community bordering the west-side of Yosemite National Park and 15 miles west of Yosemite Valley.

No previous Federal Experience is required.
A pre-employment background investigation is required.
This is a TERM position working full time (min 6 months–max 50 weeks)
