Animals Looking For A Room With A Better View
What causes animals to change where they live? A group of researchers from UC Berkeley have been studying the animals residents of Yosemite and what they found is surprising.
Kansas City Star: “Scientists studying Yosemite National Park’s bountiful wildlife have found that several species have moved to higher altitudes, an uphill migration possibly spawned by the grinding effects of global warming.The team of scientists from the University of California, Berkeley, Museum of Vertebrate Zoology made the discovery while retracing the pioneering research of biologist Joseph Grinnell, who about 90 years ago cataloged the park’s mammals, birds and reptiles.
Over the last three summers, the Berkeley researchers revisited many of the spots that Grinnell plotted. What they found was an environment that had seen a remarkable shift in many of its wild inhabitants.”
