Photo of the Day: Hetch Hetchy by Jared Kelly

Photo: Hetch Hetchy behind O'Shaughnessy Dam. Photo by Jared Kelly.

Most people think of O'Shaughnessy Dam as being a behemoth that holds back the Tuolumne keeping Hetch Hetchy Valley submerged beneath hundreds of feet of water. Jared Kelly has managed to catch a different side of the dam in today’s Photo of the Day showing what a beautiful place Hetch Hetchy still is even though it’s a little wet.

Love the clouds and the color in the sky. Great shot Jared.

But think how much more beautiful if the sky and the clouds were the same, but the reservoir were replaced by a valley comparable to Yosemite Valley.

How long would it take to restore the valley to that kind of shape?

    A generation? Two? Three?
