Road Closures and Detours
Here’s a list of road conditions through out the park. Remember to drive slow in the construction zones and on the detours.
Northside Drive:
May 30th thru June 22nd - El Capitan Picnic Area to Pohono Bridge
Open during the day with intermittent one-lane closures while crews raise the utility manholes. It is also open during the night, however pilot car operations are escorting 2-way traffic due to the nighttime closure of Southside Drive.
Southside Drive:
May 30th thru July 27th - Pohono Bridge to Wawona Road
Open during the day with a single lane and gravel type driving surface. Closed Sunday thru Thursday nights. Sunday night the closure is from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM and Monday thru Thursday nights the closure is from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM. During the night crews are pulverizing, regrading and compacting the recycled road surface. Paving operations are tentatively schedule to begin June 16th. (Nighttime delays up to 30-minutes and daytime less than 5-minutes)
May 30th thru July27th - Wawona Road to Housekeeping
During the day intermittent one-lane closures as crews continue to work on headwalls and curb installation in preparation for the next phase of pulverizing and paving (Wawona Road to El Capitan Crossover).
Big Oak Flat Road
May 30th thru June 27th - Big Oak Flat Road
Crews will be working nights with one-lane traffic control and up to 15-minute delays while they seal the Big Oak Flat Road between El Portal Road and the Hodgdon Entrance. The work schedule for Sunday & Friday Nights is 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM and for Monday thru Thursday Nights it is 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM.
For over 30 years now I've enjoyed hiking, backpacking, fishing, photographing and exploring Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.
