Fires Around Yosemite
As of 0600 Tuesday, June 24, 2008 several significant fires continue to burn outside Yosemite National Park due to the weekend’s lightning strikes.
The Oliver Complex, burning on the Sierra National Forest, is currently at over 1300 acres with about 5% containment. This complex, which includes 14 fires, has threatened homes in some areas.

The North Mountain fire is burning in the Stanislaus National Forest between Cherry Creek and the Tuolumne River. It is currently approximately 600 acres. It’s progress has been impeded by the low fuel loads resulting from 2004’s Early Fire, and has not yet reached the park boundary.
For over 30 years now I've enjoyed hiking, backpacking, fishing, photographing and exploring Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada.

The Oliver Fire is about 2 miles from my property in the Ponderosa Basin. As of yesterday at 9pm, CalFire has reported that the fire is 15% contained at 1292 acres and moving north away from the Basin.
